Who is the Client

A fashion and lifestyle brand conglomerate of 70+ brands, they have the finest selection of fashion wear, shoes, bags, and accessories being sold in thousands of stores in the international market.

The Challenge

The client required a seamless omnichannel e-commerce experience for their customers located in six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. The project involved two components—first, migration from Magento 2 Open Source edition to the Commerce edition, and second, integration of Magento 2 Commerce with Oracle Commerce Resource Planning Cloud (ERP), FarEye (a logistics provider), and IBM Sterling Order Management. The client wanted an omnichannel, multi-country shopping experience that could scale.

After an initial e-commerce success with the Magento Open Source edition, the client faced limitation in its scalability and features. They wanted to migrate to Magento Commerce edition and include the IBM Sterling Order Management system (OMS) to address these challenges.

Following were the client’s primary challenges:

  • Their existing Magento 2 Open Source implementation did not scale to support the e-commerce growth.
  • Multiple language and currency requirements for a broad regional support required significant refactoring of the existing code.
  • Inventory mismatches prevented them from delivering an omnichannel experience while impacting product order projections.
  • Promotion rules were not extendable to all products in all regions, thereby limiting the audience for promotions.

The Solution

Experts at GSPANN performed migration to Magento 2 Commerce edition and IBM Sterling OMS while integrating these two platforms with Oracle ERP and FarEye Logistics. In addition, we developed a framework within Magento to add country or brand-specific stores within days that fully support multi-language, multi-currency omnichannel capabilities.

These upgrades provide a foundation for growth and scalability to the client while enabling a personal, regionalized omnichannel experience for its multi-country customers. The client can now quickly add three additional countries and have the foundation for Commerce-class platforms to scale both in number of customers and in diversity of languages and currencies they encounter in new markets.

Nearly every aspect of the client’s e-commerce operation was upgraded during this project—e-commerce platform, ERP, OMS, and other backend platforms in the ecosystem. User experience was updated with customized store templates and UI was refactored for a streamlined shopping journey. We also simplified Product Search by integrating Magento Commerce with Algolia to display real-time search results.

Business Impact

  • Created brand-specific sites and spin-up brand sites using same stock-keeping units (SKUs) that were used across multi-brand and mono-brand e-commerce stores.
  • Stable web environment implemented with Magento Commerce edition that reduced scalability issues.
  • Improved order management with tighter integration since Oracle ERP system eliminated inventory issues.
