Who is the Client

A US-based global technology-driven home fitness solutions company with over $300M annual sales.

The Challenge

The client runs a huge Salesforce Commerce Cloud-based e-commerce website where the customers can order fitness equipment (like treadmills) and subscription of workout plans that are played on display panels of the fitness equipment. The customers can also buy these subscriptions at the time of order if they choose ‘credit card’ as their payment method.

However, no independent purchase workflow was available for the customers if they were unable to buy a subscription during the checkout process due to incompatible payment methods or voluntarily opt-out. The client’s Salesforce Commerce Cloud website didn’t have the option of buying subscriptions of the workout plans separately.

Similarly, the customers who bought the products from retail outlets had to buy the subscriptions either at the time of product checkout or via the client’s mobile app. The mobile app’s payment gateway charged a sales commission on every transaction.

The client wanted to remove the dependency on the mobile app’s payment gateway because it charged a sales commission on every transaction by developing an independent purchase workflow for subscriptions.

The Solution

We developed an independent cart flow and implemented an easy and quick checkout process, which puts all checkout elements on one page and handles their dependency to downstream the system involved in batch processes. We analyzed the existing QA automation framework and recommended improvements for better test coverage in lesser time.

Our experts developed a one-click checkout process that can be accomplished within a single page, replacing the multi-step checkout, where a user had to go through several pages before confirming the order. This has improved their customers' overall experience, which helped in reducing cart abandonment and avoid business loss.

Within the process, the users now select a category or product with a subscription and apply a coupon code (if applicable) for validation. They then navigate to the billing page and enter their address to create an address object validated using the client’s standardized address service. The service makes an API call to the router to access backend functionality and perform the address validation. Finally, when customers click on the ‘buy’ button, the payment method is authorized using the payment gateway.

The customers who bought the products from retail stores can now buy subscriptions related to workout plans directly from the client’s website. Hence, the client doesn’t lose any revenue to a third party in the form of a sales commission.

Business Impact

  • The single-page checkout process helped in reducing cart abandonment.
  • The client saw a significant increase in subscription sales since the customers can now purchase them separately.
  • The client no longer requires to pay sales commissions to the third party for the independent sales of subscription services.
